Did you know each year, heart attacks kill more than half a million people, and approximately half of these deaths occur suddenly, without prior symptoms. However, if the risk factors leading to a heart attack are identified early enough, 85 percent of sudden heart attacks may be prevented.
Sterling Regional MedCenter is proud to introduce a revolutionary screening for detecting the presence of coronary artery disease and an increased risk for heart attacks. Heart Score includes a noninvasive test that accurately measures the amount of calcified plaque in the arteries, blood work and a consultation with a wellness specialist. This program is being offered through Wellness Services in cooperation with Dr. John Drury, our local Board Certified Cardiologist, and the Medical Imaging Department at Sterling Regional MedCenter.
This screening begins with optional blood work including a Lipid Profile Screening, Homocysteine, and/or High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein test. Once the optional blood work is complete, the actual Cardiac Scoring CT Scan, more commonly known as CAT scan is performed. The scan itself lasts no more than 5-10 minutes, and there are no needles or dyes involved.
The overall goal of the CT Heart Score cardiac profile is to increase your awareness of heart disease and what factors may increase your risk for heart-related problems. Together, with the scan and blood work, this gives you a comprehensive picture of your overall risk for developing heart disease.
The fee for the Heart Score portion of the program is $199. The optional blood work pieces are $25 for the lipid profile, $30 for the homocysteine and $15 for the hsCRP. Payment is due at the time of service. Currently, insurance plans do not cover this service.
The June screening date is Thursday, June 14th from 7:45 – 9 a.m. Call 521-3226 to make an appointment.
